Here’s Devin Townsend Programming Ziltoid Beats with EZ Drummer 2

It’s always worth while speaking to a clever man, but doubly so when that man is Devin Townsend, and let’s double down on that again when he’s in the studio writing a new Ziltoid the Omniscient double LP.

Ubiquitous digital drum purveyors Toontrack caught up with Devy in the studio, to examine his EZ Drummer 2 composition process. He demonstrates taking some of the preexisting grooves to get a basic structure, and then messing with the beats to personalize them. No, you don’t get to hear any actual Ziltoid riffs, but maybe if you get really stoned you can take these rough drum concepts and let your imagination go to town. Or just fall asleep watching Shark Week.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.
