RIGGED: GUS G. Runs You Through His Gear

Have you ever wondered how Firewind’s Gus G. gets his tone? Well, we asked him and here’s what he told us.

Amplifier

“I use Blackstar St James 6L6 50 watt amp head. That’s where my main tone comes from. I use it on the red channel. I run it through a Blackstar 4×12 cab loaded with Celestion vintage 30″ speakers.”

Signal Path

“I use Sennheiser G4 wireless. Out of my wireless unit and into my pedalboard (next photo). Out of the pedalboard and back into the Blackstar amp input. For guitar switching I use the Sennheiser XSW-D pedal wireless. Both my wireless units are plugged into a Morley A/B switching so I can switch guitars easily.”

Pedalboard

“I’m a stomp box guy and I keep it fairly minimal. On my board I have a BOSS tuner that goes into a J. Rocket Archer OD pedal, that I blend together with the amp distortion to get my main tone. Then a Morley way and out of that into the amp. Finally, I run a BOSS DD3 or DD7 delay pedal in the FX loop.”

Guitars

“In Europe I took three guitars with me. Two of them are new prototypes of my Jackson star models. They’re mar black with gold pinstripes and hardware. One has a stop tail bridge and one a Floyd Rose locking tremolo. The 3rd guitar is an older signature model, an Indonesian import one, which is now the FIRE guitar. Basically a one off modded guitar where there’s a whole system integrated that features lasers, glycerine and batteries so that the guitar produces the flame effect.”
