Animals as Leaders guitarist Tosin Abasi has been trigger happy on social media lately, first spilling the beans on his new, cool and weird-looking signature Ibanez guitar. He’s been posting these little videos showing off not only the guitar’s sound and look, but also his improv chops on non-Animals music.
Below is a pretty nuts little attempt at some improv on Armenian jazz pianist Tigran Hamasayn‘s “Song for Melan and Rafik.” Tosin writes in the comments that the syncopation groove is “deceptively hard” to lock in on – I’d go further, that’s just straight up tough! But it’s cool to see him play in a bit more of a “naked” setting. Check it out:
