Revocation Guitarist Dave Davidson Picks a Winner in Heavy Metal Hybrid Picking

I don’t know if you guys have noticed this before, but Revocation‘s David Davidson is pretty good at guitar. I mean, he’s right solid on the thing. Critically acclaimed, even. I’ve heard that his humorous name was exchanged in a trade with the Devil, a pact that granted Dave his talent. Not unlike Benedict Cumberbatch, actually.

Well, prepare to be schooled by the man. No, not at a Revocation show, although attending one of those wouldn’t hurt. No, not even by taking lessons from him via BandHappy, which is another admittedly stellar idea. I’m referring to this new Heavy Metal Hybrid Picking DVD, which is all about shopping for a fuel efficient, partially-electric car, set to the soundtrack of Manowar.

Oh, okay, the other hybrid picking. See, that’s what I’m talking about, right there. Had known what hybrid picking was then I wouldn’t have needed this DVD. But I don’t, so I do. And so do you. You can pick it up for $14.99 at this location.

There’s no sample video on the page, but this DVD is brought to you by Guitar World, and Dave has already done some online videos through that site. I covered one a bit ago, and just spent the whole time critiquing the framing. You can watch it below. I don’t know if it’s indicative of the video’s content, but it’s a solid watch nonetheless, headless guitarist notwithstanding.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.
