The guitar is a noisy instrument. If you play any kind of heavy/loud/distorted music, you have to contend with feedback, 60hz hum, preamp buzz, string noises of various kinds – it’s ALWAYS a challenge.
Luckily, with the problem comes a solution (thanks technology!) – the GATE. A gate is simply a mute that opens when you play, and closes when you don’t – in theory, anyway. But because of the nature of how an amp is designed, there’s a trick that will make your gate WAAAYYYY more effective.
