We’ve been stoked all week to premiere exclusive rig tours of long-running Philadelphia noisy/drony/hardcore-y/great band Rosetta, beginning with guitarists Matt Weed and Eric Jernigan. We wrap things up today with bassist Dave Grossman.
If you haven’t checked out Rosetta’s new record Quintessential Ephemera, do yourself a favor and get on that shit. They’re such a unique band, blending so many different kinds of genres, ideas, and atmospherics into one of their most focused releases yet.
One of my favorite aspects of the album is actually Dave’s playing – in a band whose mix is often dominated by loud guitars and noise parts, it’s important that the rhythm section lay down a super-solid backdrop to keep the whole thing afloat. Dave’s lead bass playing on “(Untitled III)” as well as his more textural fuzz sounds on “(Untitled IV)” are particularly tasty.
So we caught up with Dave at the band’s recent headline show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York, to talk all things bass and gross noise. As you might have guessed if you’ve been following this video, Dave’s board includes a custom pedal built by Matt under his Atomium Amplification brand. Check it out below:
