It’s not every day that you see a PIANO PLAYTHROUGH on a website that is mostly dominated by guitar, bass, and drum stuffs, but you know what? I’m fuckin’ INTO IT.
Hailing from the UK, Thumpermonkey delivers a pretty sick spin on the progressive rock genre. They were recently ranked at number 9 in Prog Magazine’s top albums of the year list. I’m not totally sure that I’ve heard anything quite like this before in modern times. This band is kind of like if you took Yes, Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, and King Crimson and threw them all into a blender. I mean this in a totally original way. This band crafts their own take on prog without wearing their influences on their sleeves.
In this open-top upright piano play through of their song “Deckchair For Your Ghost” from their new album Make Me Young, etc., we go on a semi-psychedelic journey while looking down at a set of hands flying all over those keys. Along with the cool visual effects that have been used to compliment this tune we also see that Thumpermonkey are no stranger to inventive lyricism. The story told in this song takes the mind to all different places.
Thumpermonkey will be playing a very special show at The Pineapple Thief at Manchester O2 Ritz on Friday 22nd March. Keep an eye out for that!
Buy the album here, and you can find more info on the band’s website.
