SOILWORK – Bastian Thusgaard Exclusive Drum Playthrough for “Tongue”

Get your eyeballs around this killer drum playthrough of “Tongue” by Bastian Thusgaard of melo-death heavyweights Soilwork.

Soilwork have been at the top of the game for a long time now; they’re up there with the rest of the Swedish melodic death metal giants such as In Flames, At the Gates, and Dark Tranquillity, and have continued to release good quality albums consistently since their first all the way back in 1998. I first heard them when a friend of mine played me “Stabbing the Drama” and the groove just literally took my head off, if you’ve not heard it then I seriously recommend you go listen to it, as well as the album itself by the same name.

Bastian is the newest addition to the band, having replaced Dirk Verbeuren as the sticksman after he left to (understandably) join Dave Mustaine and his merry bunch of friends/hired-hands in Megadeth. There is plenty going on here with Bastian’s right hand looking extraordinarily comfortable playing at such a high tempo (swear he’s grown extra muscles in his forearm too), his blast beats and double-time ride action are played from the fingers meaning he can get the precision and tempo needed for this track. He doesn’t seem to lack any of the power which some drummers tend to when using this technique. It’s obvious why Bastian was chosen for the role by Soilwork from this track alone, go check out his other videos here as a further example of why he is a master of his craft.

Enjoy this tune from the album The Living Infinite and then go check out what else the lad has to offer on his Youtube and his other bands; The Arcane Order and Dawn of Demise.
