Insane Genius RON JARZOMBEK Demonstrates Blotted Science’s “Ingesting Blattaria”

So I generally think of metal as being a genre that by its definition pushes boundaries, although in many cases this is not true – many bands today are playing it very safe, unsure of what direction to boldly push into next. I could come up with a dozen examples of that, but I think it serves us all better to do the opposite – to show you someone with real, honest intention and direction and who thinks waaayyyyy outside the box.

Ron Jarzombek has been blowing minds with Blotted Science since 2005 (and with Spastic Ink before that), and on their album The Animation of Entomology they made 12 tone rows married with some brutal insect scenes from horror movies. They synced the music to things happening on the screen, letting the video dictate what happens in the music, like a soundtrack but very precise.

In this video, Ron plays each of the guitar parts for their song “Ingesting Blattaria”. If you’re interested in what Ron plays to make this terrifying noises, you can check out this incredibly in-depth Rigged he did for us.

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.

  • Ron is a genius. His best is “A Wild Hare”, hands down.
