NAMM 2014: The Many Metal Axes from Jackson, EVH, and Charvel

I may have mentioned how I started avoiding calling Gear Gods a “metal” website when talking to companies at NAMM. Part of the catalyst was when we didn’t get to see the new Guild guitar models or the ’57 and ’65 Deluxe amplifiers. Sure they don’t have pointy angles or 6 preamp tubes for distortion, but sometimes Fender or Guild or Gretsch gear is exactly what you want for a killer heavy record.

But hell, team Gear Gods was busy as hell and there’s an arsenal of great instruments we didn’t have time to get to. You have to be Zen about it. Fender did show us plenty of nice stuff from their Jackson, Charvel, and EVH divisions. They mainly focused on the many, many new guitars this year. Take a look below.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.
