Intronaut-Owned Dunable Guitars’ New Model Gets Its Hetfield On, but Names It After a Tiny Robot

I’m trying to figure out the naming connection between a Gibson explorer and R2D2, but I’m at a loss. Am I looking for meaning that isn’t there? What do the Dunable Guitars Yarnhawk and Moonflower models have to do with a stylized take on a Strat or Paul, respectively? At least I can connect the entomological dots on the Thunderclapper Bass.

Well fine, let’s skip past that. The Dunable Custom Guitars R2D2 takes on a classic body shape and rounds it, also adding a big-knobbed, extra ’70s vibe in the same vein as the other models in the company’s product line. It also lengthens the scale to 25.5″. Othwise there’s no specs to speak of, as these are Dunable Custom Guitars, not Dunable Play What the Fuck We Tell You To Guitars, but all configurations come with your choice of Bare Knuckle Pickups.

Learn more at the Dunable website. The pricing starts at $2,100.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.

  • Probably because it’s based on the Gibson RD (as used by Ghost) rather than the Explorer.

    • Sweet guitar though. :-)

    • Yeah, RD

    • Exactly what I was going to say. It looks kickass. I didn’t realize Ghost played RDs though, that kinda makes me want one less.lol
