Dave Lombardo Pro-Shot Drum Solo is Transparent, Awesome

Everyone send a thank you note or metal holiday sweater (a good excuse to get rid of them, because if I catch you wearing one on the street I’m going to run you over with my car) to Rick Kosick, Benji Lanpher, and Rick Kosick, who shot and edited this Dave Lombardo drum solo. The man rips it up as always. Slays if you will. Or can I not say that anymore? But I’m definitely a fan-tomas of his. Check out his grip (inc) on the sticks.

I’m trying to make some kind of flam pun utilizing his new side project PHILM but it’s just not happening.

By the way, does Dave Lombardo always play Ludwig Vistalite drums now, or is this just a house kit he was jamming on?

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.

  • That man can drum. Also, Rick Kosick was so great he needed to be mentioned twice.

  • I like the part where he hit the drums with his sticks.

    It’s the best.

  • Those drums sound like farts, especially the kick.

    • I don’t know. I like midrangey drums. They don’t go for a produced, modern tone with lots of eq or compression. Just sounds like they threw some mics up and let the performance speak for itself.

      • No doubt but I guess you actually have to appreciate talent to understand that. Honestly it was awesome seeing a legend still pound skins 30 years on. I just watched/listened in amazement at what seemed like a sneak-peek into a garage-style jam session or band practice. Phenomenal.
