With NAMM 2016 coming up in a week, I’ve been reflecting on my past experiences there, to think about how I can have a more productive and enjoyable time, and how I can help you to have one as well if you’re going. I’ve been to 5 total NAMM shows now (3 Winter and 2 Summer), and although I’m far from a seasoned vet, I’ve learned some things that I wish someone had told me the first time around. This video contains almost none of those things.

Here are some actual helpful tips:

  • Bring more than one pair of shoes, and swap them out in the middle of the day. Your feet will feel refreshed.
  • Gel insoles are key, especially if you have flat feet like me. Arch support helps too.
  • Pace yourself. I pretty much run from one thing to the next for four straight days because I want to do it all. Don’t be like me.
  • Bring a snack. You think you’ll have time to stop and eat, but sometimes you just don’t.
  • Be friendly as FUCK. Every booth you go to will have nice people who want to talk to you, but who have said the same spiel 345873249587234 times already.
  • Find me, I will give you Gear Gods picks.

Thanks to all these folks for contributing their hacks to my video:

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
