NAMM 2015 – MC Systems Effects Pedals Can Be Turned On or… Extra On?

Metalheads don’t compromise. Ever. So why settle for a simple on/off switch? MC Systems sure as hell don’t. Their bypass switches may not “go to 11”, but they go far beyond “1” in the binary on/off sense. These switches are “velocity sensitive,” so if you hit the button harder then you’ll get more of the effect.

I have no idea whatsoever if this is brilliant or if it will prove to be gimmicky and impractical in a live environment, but at the least I’m very curious to try it out and see. I’d assume that having just a couple, maybe even only two, triggerable modes would be preferable: easier to predictably and consistently kick in to the effect level you want.

But in any event, it’s not too often that you swing by a booth at NAMM and think “now that’s an idea I haven’t seen before.” So kudos on that level alone.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.
