It’s a sad truth that few of us are well versed in the luthier’s arts. We may play these guitars, love them, study them, even geek out about the individual components. But do we have more than the faintest clue of how to assemble these pieces into a functional instrument? Besides the obvious like “well, the neck gets bolted onto the body… unless you glue it…”
Not that it’s a good idea to attempt to construct some sad, fugly shell of a guitar if you’re utterly clueless (although honestly I’d love to see someone try just to marvel at the train wreck). But the basics? We could brush up on those. Like refinishing a neck, for example? Our friends at Axe Hacks give you the luthier 101 lesson, with this Ibanez RG as the demonstration piece.
