Misha Mansoor of Periphery and GetGood drums has released a tutorial on basic drum fill theory, which is great for all of us who aren’t drummers!

His approach is effective, which is to be expected considering he was the drummer for Periphery in their early years and has programmed drums on albums like the Animals As Leaders debut. Insight like this is something I wish I had when I started writing music. And even now it’s good to listen and remember the simple things, like, a drummer doesn’t have 8 hands despite how cool a china and a crash and a hi-hat and a splash sound together.
Anyway, check out the video above to get some information that will send you in the right direction for programming technique.
