John Longstreth Shows How Origin Were the Future a Decade Ago in “Reciprocal”

John Longstreth isn’t in Gorguts anymore. As sad as that is, we know that Gorguts is in good hands, and it leaves Longstreth more time to focus on Origin so let’s not get too bummed about it.

No, let us turn our attention to just how equally jaw-slapping John Longsreth’s playing is with the band that made his name in the first place. The tune is “Reciprocal” from the… hell, has it really been almost 10 years since Origin released Echoes of Decimation? Origin was playing circles around many of our readers before they could shave. Well, I guess you could shave at pretty much any age. But why would you want to?

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.

  • John didn’t even play on Echoes… some guy who had only been playing drums for 2 years played on it.

    • Ah. Didn’t realize he had taken a break for 2-3 years in the middle of the band’s existence. I saw them live in 2006 with Longstreth on drums, which must have been right after he rejoined.
