MOGWAI’s Stuart Braithwaite Teams With REUSS EFFECTS for New Drive Pedal

Mogwai guitarist Stuart Braithwaite has teamed up with Reuss Effects for an all new signature drive pedal called the Plasmatron that might sound familiar.

The Plasmatron is largely based on Braithwaite’s 1990s Danelectro Fab Tone distortion, and expands on the pedal’s unique and extreme distortion effect. Then to really fatten things up, Braithwaite suggested the Plasmatron also include characteristics of his 1970s Electro-Harmonix Big Muff.

Ultimately, the Plasmatron isn’t a traditional two-in-one pedal. Instead, Reuss describes it asthe components of two pedals “run in parallel so that the input is split into the two individual circuits, and the outputs of these are combined in a mixer.” All you need to do is decide how much of each you want, and then proceed to completely destroy your surroundings with volume. Reuss also notes that there’s a switchable option to reduce the pre-gain of the input stage inside the Plasmatron, should you need to tone things down (or up).

The Reuss Plasmatron Stuart Braithwaite is available here for €199.95, and will ship in October 2021 (if you get in on this batch of pedals).
