Legendary Producer AL SCHMITT Has Died

We at Gear Gods are saddened to learn that the most Grammy-award winning engineer/mixer in history, Al Schmitt, has passed away. Having engineered over 150 Gold and Platinum albums, in a career spanning 7 decades, he worked with artists from Duke Ellington, to Henry Mancini, Jefferson Airplane, Steely Dan, to Paul McCartney and many more legends.

He was 91, and as recently as last year had worked with our friends at Toontrack on an EZMix pack and the Decades SDX expansion for Superior Drummer, as well as a recent signature plugin with Leapwing, demonstrating that even after 70 years in the business, he was still innovating and working with new technology in an ever-changing industry.

At this time the cause of death has not been released, but tributes are pouring in from around the industry.

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
