EMG PICKUPS Launches New “Retro Active” Pickups

EMG Pickups, known for having some of the best active pickups around, just put out the new “Retro Active” set. They come in two different flavors: the Super 77 and the Fat 55. They are perfectly named because at first I thought they were passive, but they aren’t!  They are active pickups in a classic passive housing.  Most of their current active pickups have a soap bar housing, which comes in handy for fanned fret and extended range guitars. The Super 77 is based off of the sweet classic rock tones of the 70s. It has ceramic magnets and gives the feel of a classic humbucker but with the advantages of an active pickup. The Fat 55 is based on the original PAF pickup of the 50s and 60s.  It has Alnico magnets and combines the sound of a PAF but has no hum or extra noise. How do they sound you ask? Richie Faulkner (Judas Priest) demos the Fat 55s while Mike Keneally demos the Super 77s. Check em out!
