Cameron Stucky (Darkness Everywhere, The Hunt) is here to walk you through some of the features of the ENGL Ravager IR E725, a 20-watt all-tube head in a compact lunchbox format that’s packed with sound-shaping and functional tools designed for the modern guitarist.
On the head, Stucky said in part: “Something that I thought was really fascinating was just how streamlined it made the process, as far as recording and the tones that I was able to get and capture.
“Comparatively, I have a Fireball 100, a 4×12 cab – in normal circumstances, I would have probably set up that amplifier in a room, played around with mics, deal with all the minutia. I think [the Ravager] really trims the fat and eliminates a lot of problems that you might have as far as what you would run into logistically when recording.”

Small Amp, Huge Power
The ENGL Ravager IR E725 is a 20-watt, compact all-tube amplifier head that combines classic tube circuitry with contemporary recording and live-performance features. Powered by a pair of EL84 output tubes and ECC83/12AX7 preamp tubes, the Ravager IR E725 delivers the dynamic response, harmonic richness and touch sensitivity that tube-amp enthusiasts demand. Its two-channel architecture provides access to both pristine clean sounds and aggressive lead tones.
One of the amp’s most compelling features is its integrated impulse response loader. The onboard system includes four cabinet simulations, three of which can be customized via USB, allowing players to tailor their direct sound for recording sessions, live performances, or silent practice setups. ENGL has also equipped the Ravager with a balanced XLR output, making it easy to send cabinet-simulated tones directly to a mixing console, front-of-house system or audio interface without the need for additional hardware.
ENGL included a headphone output for silent practice, as well as an integrated Power Soak that allows the amplifier’s output to be reduced from its full 20-watt rating down to 5 watts, 1 watt or even Speaker Off mode.
Control duties are straightforward yet flexible, with dedicated gain controls for each channel, a three-band EQ section and independent volume controls for the Clean and Lead channels, alongside a master volume. Connectivity includes a power amp output compatible with 8- and 16-ohm speaker cabinets, a line output, the balanced XLR IR output and the headphone output.
Despite its impressive feature set, the Ravager IR E725 remains highly portable. Measuring just 13.6 inches wide, 6.3 inches high and 7.7 inches deep, and weighing only 13.3 pounds, the amplifier is designed to fit easily into a gig bag or travel setup without sacrificing the tonal performance that has become synonymous with the ENGL name.
