Meshuggah‘s music is notoriously hard to wrap your head around when it comes to doing a good cover song. Bassist Brian Krahe (of the band Krosis) clearly has no issue with it, as he’s now streaming his full cover of Catch Thirtythree, the 2005 album by Meshuggah. It’s one continuous suite that spans 13 tracks and 47 minutes, all of which Krahe has down to a science. It’s really impressive!
Catch Thirtythree is also an interesting choice for a full album bass cover, as Meshuggah was between bassists at that time. Gustaf Hielm left the band in 2004, and was replaced by Dick Lövgren that same year. Though due to time constraints, Lövgren didn’t perform on the album – instead it was all played by vocalist Jens Kidman, guitarist Fredrik Thordendal, and guitarist Mårten Hagström.
