Periphery just released their new record A Pale White Dot on May 15, and drummer Matt Halpern is here to show you how he plays the track “Heaven on High”.
The short answer is “forcefully and with authority,” and the long answer is “watch the damn video.” It’s groovy with a deep pocket, it hits hard where it has to, and it’s just Halpern through and through.
Check it out below in all its proggy Periphery glory. Halpern uses Meinl cymbals, specifically:
- 20” Byzance Traditional Extra Thin Hammered Crash
- 18” Byzance Traditional Extra Thin Hammered Crash
- 14” Byzance Traditional Medium Hihats
- 8” Byzance Traditional Splash
- 15″ R&D Prototype Ride
- 21” Byzance Double Down Crash-Ride
- 17/18” Artist Concept Model Double Down Stack
