Archspire’s “Lucid Collective Somnambulation” Drum Playthrough Has the Fanciest Snare Grinding You’ll See All Week

I have to admit to never having listed to Archspire before, but hot damn if this playthrough by drummer Spencer Prewett didn’t impress the hell out of me. It’s his performance of the track “Lucid Collective Somnambulation,” but he certainly isn’t sleepwalking through this performance.

To pull off the grind beats at this post-300 BPM tempo, Prewett utilizes “finger switch blasting” which allows him to keep that snare plowing forward while not killing his stamina. If you’re digging what you hear check out the band’s new album The Lucid Collective for similar percussive insanity.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.
