That’s right, Germany progressive metal band The Ocean have awakened from their slumber after a long 5-year wait with the release of a brand new single and record. The song, “Permian: The Great Dying” is the closing track to their forthcoming record Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic, which is the first part of a double album they will be putting out this year under the collective title Phanerozoic. But stop reading and listen, goddammit!

As a long time fan of The Ocean, this track has all the elements I love to hear. Sludgy guitar riffs, brutal screaming and catchy clean singing from vocalist Loïc Rossetti, eerie and layered interludes, and an ambitious-as-fuck concept, all wrapped up in a track that almost spans 10 minutes. There’s not much more we can ask for.

Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic is out November 2nd, 2018 on Metal Blade Records and pre-order bundles are live right now! What are you waiting for? Get on it!
