MUSE – New “Dig Down” Lyric Video Uses Artificial Intelligence to “Sing” Song in Realtime

This has gotta be one of the weirdest lyric videos I’ve ever seen, because it’s hardly a lyric video as we’ve come to know them at all. Basically, Muse and their people made a robot scour the internet for video clips in which the lyrics from their new single, “Dig Down,” occur. The ‘bot automatically compiles the footage in the appropriate order and sets it to the music as if a bunch of politicians and interviewees are singing the tune. It kinda sounds like ass, but their hearts are in the right place.

In Muse & Co.’s own words:

The brand new video from Muse uses the latest in Artificial Intelligence technology to create a lyric video for new single ‘Dig Down.’ Using the latest in machine learning capabilities the AI tool has been tasked with scraping hundreds of hours of footage searching for occurrences of words from the ‘Dig Down’ lyrics and produces a library of video clips. The clips are then pieced together using timed information from the original song to create a lyric video where each lyric is voiced by a different person. The process will be repeated every day – check back tomorrow to see the updated video.

It’d be cool to check back daily and see who’s “singing” next. At the very least, this is pretty clever, right? For more, including the studio version of the new single, head here.
