STEVE VAI – The Gear Gods Interview

Well, I had a pretty good day yesterday. Got to spend some real quality time with my guitar, ate some pretty good food, got some good work done, and caught up with friends. I feel like there’s something else I did though, something important….. Oh, right.

I INTERVIEWED GOD

Now, we may be the Gear Gods, but Steve Vai is the Guitar God. Nobody melds absurd technical ability with pure, beautiful expression like he does, and I doubt anyone ever will again. He’s a true original, a one-of-a-kind mastermind, and I talked to him on the phone for a half hour. Yesssssssssssss

So the reason I was privileged to interface with the almighty is that he has a new live DVD coming out April 6, called Stillness in Motion- Vai Live in LA. It features footage from a show on his Story of Light tour, a tour on which he brought a harpist (Deborah Henson-Conant) which I was lucky enough to see live on the Napa stop. If the DVD is anything like the show I saw, you’re in for a treat.

I’m gonna go pinch myself, because I’m still not even sure that it really happened, so if you see me, please reassure me that it did. Just a few more items to go on my bucket list…..

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
