MASTODON: 3D-Printed Action Figures Up For Charity Auction

Neo-luddite societies have been warning us for years about the dangers of 3D printing: what it could do to our economy, distribution of labor, and small business landscape.

But I have never heard cautionary tales about 3D-printed heavy metal band action figures, which is exactly what the Army Man Project is doing. They’ve currently got an eBay auction going for some 3D-printed Mastodon figures, along with a bunch of signed merch from the band – the proceeds of which will benefit the Benincasa Hospice House in Rochester, New York (where drummer Brann Dailor grew up).

Apparently they didn’t just google image search “Mastodon” or go off pics from the net – they actually brought the guys in to “scan” them for the figures (if humanity isn’t speeding towards Star Trek, let me know…).  Bid on the figures here.
