One of the joys of a new Mastodon album is a fresh batch of Brent Hinds guitar solos. Having heard Emperor of Sand, I can assure you that there’s some scorchers on there: at times, Brent even rears off his Southern blues roots into straight-up Marty Friedman territory. The looser, more melodic songwriting on the album must’ve flicked a switch in his brain, because he’s delivered some of his best playing since Blood Mountain.
The band has posted a new in-studio clip focusing on recording those wily scorchers, and on Brent’s space-cowboy persona in general. Check it out below:
