Strymon is a company that needs no introduction at this point. They’ve been pumping out a variety of high end guitar effects pedals since 2008, and have just released pre-orders for this puppy: the Sunset Dual Overdrive. Take this top-o’-the-line overdrive pedal and fuse it with the heavy shreddings of none other than Keith Merrow (Conquering Dystopia, Alluvial), and you’ve got yourself one hell of a demo.
The main key feature of the Sunset Dual Overdrive is the inclusion of six classic circuits. Each channel (A and B) is comprised of two unique overdrive circuits, as well as one boost circuit for the ultimate flexibility in your tone. As you can hear in Keith’s demonstration, this baby is capable of everything from tight, mid-range tones that cut through the mix to warmer, fuzzier territory, all while sounding huge. Each channel can either be selected individually or combined with the other, so there is no compromise to get that perfect overdriven tone you’re seeking. Even with the fairly simple signal chain that Keith is running for this demo, it’s pretty unbelieveable how massive this overdrive sounds. It also doesn’t hurt to have some sick prog metal being played through it either.
If this pedal tickles your overdriven fancy, you can pre-order it now directly through Strymon for $299. If you’d rather stick to hearing Keith Merrow play the shit outta some tech deathy goodness, be sure to check out the new record from Alluvial, The Deep Longing for Annihilation in collaboration with the equally-talented Wes Hauch.
