Mastodon’s Guitar Tech Tells It Like It Is

Darren Sanders is Mastodon’s guitar/bass tech and stage manager. He’s also brother of bassist Troy Sanders, so that’s convenient. He enjoys life on the road, hanging out with his family and besties, fixing guitars and drinking beer with famous bands. In this video, he tells us about these things.

I’ve never been a paid guitar tech for a tour, but I think it sounds like great fun. Although, on the tours I’ve played, there was so much time spent just sitting around before each show that I wondered why I ever would need a tech, but then I remembered that not everyone can fix their own guitars. Some people even spend time learning to PLAY them instead of just geeking out over scale length and stainless steel frets and pickup choices. Whoops.

For everyone else, there’s Darren Sanders.

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
