So Trivium have had a pretty strange career, having exploded on to the scene after 2004’s Ascendancy, the Florida based melodic metal band were heralded as the next big thing, with some magazines even labeling them as the next Metallica. Since then it’s been a roller-coaster of ups and downs for the band, having released various albums to varying receptions and losing multiple drummers. Things haven’t been the easiest for Matt Heafy and the gang, however, it sounds like Trivium are back and are here to prove that they still have forward momentum in 2017.

Drummer Alex Bent is the newest addition to the fold, and you can see why he has been chosen to sit at the throne of Trivium’s drum kit. In this play-through for the title track taken from their new album The Sin and the Sentence, Alex comes out swinging; there’s some seriously fast hands and feet all over the place as well as some nice double handed bell/hi-hat action. The rest of the tune is promising, it’s fast as fuck at times and does pack a punch, however I can’t really vibe with the clean vocals as it’s a bit too melt-in-the-middle chocolate pudding for me. What do you guys think?

It certainly seems Alex is going to be able to hold his own in the band though, let’s hope he doesn’t suffer the same fate as many who have gone before him. Only time will tell.
