Stringed instruments are unique in that unlike, for example, a brass or woodwind or keyboard, we rely on shapes that can be moved almost anywhere on the neck with absolute transposition. If you play something that uses no open strings, you can play the same shape on a different fret and get the same sound in a different key. We also have the unique ability to tune our instrument to drastically different tunings, which completely changes the placement of the notes on the fretboard.
This opens a vast world of possibilities on the guitar for different tunings and in this video today we’re going to take a look at two different ways of changing the way the guitar is tuned – tuning down and drop tuning!
