The good folks at Kemper discuss the Profiling Amp with Trivium in the video below. It seems that when the band’s newest album, Vengeance Falls, was mixed by Colin Richardson, the band was surprised to learn that now actual amps were involved in the re-amping process. I guess we may need a new term for that if this is the way of the future. Should we say the guitars were Kempered? Sweeded?
Anyway, the other curio from the video is that the band’s live tone is exactly the same Kemper preset that the band used in the studio. I wonder if this is part of the reason why every direct-to-board band I’ve heard live, with the exception of Meshuggah, sounds anemic. You don’t necessarily want the exact same tone from the recording studio. A live venue is a different beast compared to ultra-maximized 320kbps MP3s. There’s certainly more headroom for low end, for one thing.
