Pete Cottrell Proves that Free Software Totally Doesn’t Suck in “The Song Made With Free Stuff”

So I think that this is really fucking cool and yeah, I just started the article like that. I’m a big believer in keeping stuff DIY whenever possible, especially when it comes to recording. There is no reason to give people your money when technology has come as far as it has in recent years. That being said, I have seen many examples of musicians/bands cutting corners TOO much and ending up with a really dumb and cheap sounding product. I think that the key to all of this is to know your capabilities and to know how to get the most out of the equipment that you have.

In this video Pete Cottrell searches the internet for “best free _____ vst software”, and within minutes he shows us that all we need to make a great sounding mix is a guitar, a bass, a computer, and your brain! His results are impressive and really prove that recording technology has come insanely far in recent years. Pete also talks about Distrokid, a service that gets your music into iTunes and web stores in as little as six hours! So there you have it, money is no longer a hurdle that you have to jump over to record your music.

Be sure to check out all of the products that were used in this video: Reaper, Sean Pandy Drums, MT Power Drumkit 2, Mercuriall, Ignite Amps Emissary, Stillwell Audio Event Horizon, Focusrite Scarlet 2i4.
