Any musician who’s played for any significant period of time will likely get pretty nostalgic about their first musical instrument or piece of gear, despite possibly thinking (or knowing) that it was a terrible piece of shit.
This video we filmed (part one of two) demonstrates that, as well as another important factor: your first instrument doesn’t have to be a good one, and sometimes it’s better if it isn’t.
This, to me, just further demonstrates the importance of entry-level instruments and for companies to continue producing affordable, functional stuff for kids and beginners to play. I think it’s vital also to teach them that your gear is only as useful as your skill on it, and that learning to play always trumps any spec or feature that any instrument has.
