ThorpyFX has just introduced their brand new Scarlet Tunic pedal, which seeks to emulate the tones of the late and great Pink Floyd co-founder Syd Barrett. ThorpyFX describes the pedal as an analog amplifier emulator that came about after the company was asked to “create a pedal that emulated a rare amp called the Selmer Treble and Bass 50” for Lee Harris of the Pink Floyd tribute band Saucerful of Secrets.
What started out as a custom pedal became a project for ThorpyFX, as they dug deeper into the DR103 and AC30 style tones. The company also used a high-quality transformer, allowing the pedal to distort like a full-size amplifier. ThorpyFX also points out the use of 1% metal film resistors, WIMA and Panasonic capacitors, and robust through hole plated PCBs for long-term use.
