The Weekly Riff – EARTHSIDE – “The Closest I’ve Come” Keytar Lesson

Connecticut prog band Earthside have been making some serious waves recently, between their first US tour and release of their debut album A Dream In Static which featured lush, post-rock textures in a progressive metal context and some guest appearances by heavy hitters such as Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust and Bjorn Strid of Soilwork.

Keyboard player Frank Sacramone and I met at the LA stop of the tour, and I saw him perform what I had previously assumed to be a tremolo picked guitar part in their song “The Closest I’ve Come”, which he hammered out two-handedly on his keytar to great effect. So I told him we had to show this to the GG keyboard crowd, and he agreed, and now here we are – a video lesson and demonstration of the aforementioned, and if you’re looking to get your very own, check out this article about how to choose a keytar.

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
