It was announced today on Randall’s Facebook page that Fredrik Thordendal of Meshuggah would be collaborating with the legendary Mike Fortin, designer of the Ola Englund SATAN head, to create a new signature amp. This could mark a considerable change for the band that uses tube amps neither live nor in the studio.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Fredrik Thordendal has had a signature amplifier. DAR Amplifiers was tapped to build an amp in his name called the Future Breed Machine, but it stalled after long wait times and poor communication led to consumers demanding refunds. So it’s understandable that this time he would want to go with a bigger company like Randall, to avoid just such a disaster.
According to Randall’s update, “Randall Amplifiers and Fredrik have now joined forces on a mission to take the next steps in high gain amplification for modern metal and beyond… ”
What’s beyond modern metal? Only Meshuggah knows.
More on this as it develops.
