Jack White is currently roadtesting his new custom Fender fretless bass, and he’s showing it off a little bit on Instagram! All we know so far is that the bass offers a Telecaster body, two humbucker pickups designed by Tim Shaw, and Blue Sparkle finish with white hardware. The bass was built by master builder Chip Ellis and is of course subject to change between now and whenever this thing enters production if it does at all.
The fretless’ existence isn’t exactly a surprise either, given that White played a Jaco Pastorius fretless on his latest record Entering Heaven Alive. And in true White fashion, the fretless is a little hard to play – “It is a challenge to play, to know where to put your fingers exactly to be in tune.”
