The Gibson Pickup Shop has expanded their offerings with the new, limited edition 1959 Humbucker Collector’s Edition Series 2.
The pickups are a throwback to the early days of Gibson’s pickups, with the first Patent Applied For humbucking pickups originally being launched in 1957. The originals used a variety of magnet types, including Alnico 2 and Alnico 4. Gibson has since dissected the original pickups using a variety of methods – including advanced 3D scanning technology and good old reverse engineering – to come up with super faithful reissues.
The new 1959 Humbucker Collector’s Edition Series 2 come with Alnico 2 roughcast long magnets, vintage-accurate nickel covers, Zebra butyrate bobbins, and Cream M69 mounting rings. And because presentation is everything, the pickups come housed in a high-quality Lifton presentation case.
The 1959 Humbucker Collector’s Edition Series 2 are limited to only 1,000 sets, each individually serialized with 1959-style numbering. The pickups are gonna set you back $999, and you can get ’em here.
