Rodney Dudum of Sea In The Sky is here to show you the heaviness capabilities of the LTD TH-400. Not that you needed to be convinced given everything ESP and LTD has ever done, but hey – it’s a good excuse to watch a great player rip some sweet riffs.

Designed with metal and hard rock players firmly in mind, the LTD TH-400 combines aggressive styling, active electronics and a player-focused specification sheet that prioritizes speed, comfort and reliability. While its silhouette may trace its roots back to one of the most iconic electric guitar designs ever created, nearly every aspect of the instrument has been optimized for contemporary high-gain playing.
One of the TH-400’s standout appointments is its three-piece Roasted Maple neck, which has been treated for enhanced stability and durability. ESP pairs the neck with its popular Thin U profile for some swift movements, while a slim carve is designed to be comfortable for extended sessions on stage or in the studio. The neck is topped with a Rosewood fingerboard featuring a flat 13.77″ radius and 24 extra-jumbo frets.
For pickups, ESP has turned to one of the most battle-tested pickup combinations in heavy music to power the TH-400 – an EMG 81 in the bridge position and an EMG 85 in the neck. The ceramic-loaded EMG 81 delivers the tight low end, aggressive attack and cutting articulation, while the Alnico V-equipped EMG 85 offers a warmer and fuller response.
The TH-400’s hardware package is equally focused on performance. A string-through-body LTD fixed bridge is employed to maximize sustain and resonance while providing a stable platform for aggressive picking and alternate tunings.
LTD locking tuners further reinforce that reliability, helping the guitar maintain pitch consistency throughout demanding performances and lengthy recording sessions.
