Electric Wizard’s Dopethrone is one of modern metal’s most iconic underground albums. In many ways, it was such an extreme album – yet it managed to crossover into a general indie/Pitchfork sensibility that maintains to this day. This band was also, along with Sleep the previous decade, ahead of the curve when it came to down-tuned, slow, brooding metal that we now see literally everywhere.
But few bands have topped albums like Dopethrone and Holy Mountain. So it’s cool to see that some old VHS-transferred footage from the recording of Dopethrone has made its way onto YouTube. Watching this stuff is like looking through a window to another time in music history. Check out the three clips below:
