What Amp Does SLIPKNOT’s Mick Thomson Like Better Than His Own Signature Amp?

According to a recent Music Radar interview, Slipknot guitarist Mick Thomson had this to say about his current rig:

“The new Petrucci signature head that’s based on the Mark IIC+ – which had that classic Dream Theater and early Metallica sound – it’s probably the best amp I’ve ever played and I’ve been using it over the last year of touring on the ‘Gray Chapter’ cycle.

“Despite the fact I have my own signature amp, I’ve just started using this one. I’ll still plug in my Riveras on different stuff – they’re great amps in their own right – but I’ve never been so impressed by one amp.

Damn, that’s high praise. His signature Rivera amp is no joke, so for him to be that hard-on about something else is a pretty big deal.

I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.

  • Why amp manufacturer would use Mick Thompson as a representative of their tone is beyond me. His tone is garbage.

    • I’m guessing you are in an internationally successful band that everyone has heard of too….gtfo of here with that bullshit.

      • @@cameronbotts:disqus popularity and notoriety don’t determine the quality of someone’s guitar tone. That being said, Mick Thompson’s tone is not what I would describe as “garbage”; too mid-heavy for my liking? Sure, but not total garbage.

        • That’s fair
