FIND OF THE WEEK – GENE HOGLAN’s Pearl Masters Custom Drum Set Auctioned for Charity

This week’s special Find is a Pearl Masters custom drum kit used by none other than the man himself, Gene Hoglan. As you might expect, the set is described in the eBay listing as “Heavily used, from both touring and recording, but fully functional.” This is one of those rare cases where “heavily used” is actually an alluring selling point, because there’s bound to be some mojo in these things.

The kit’s seen life on the road and in the studio with Strapping Young Lad, and features the Alien logo on either kick drum. It’s also been to festivals like Ozzfest and Sounds of the Underground, and toured with Unearth and Opeth. Modern Drummer Magazine even featured the kit back in 2005. Like I said, mojo, man. Maybe the coolest part, though, is that Gene will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics – an organization that advocates for Americans’ access to healthcare “as a right, not a privilege.” Fucking nice.

Check out the auction here for a chance to own a piece of metal drumming history and support a damn good cause. Scope some more details over at MetalSucks if you need more convincing.
