Elliot Hoffman of the brilliantly named mathcore/progressive unit Car Bomb kicks the living shit out of his drum kit in this live drum playthrough for the song “Black Blood” for Sick Drummer Magazine. With some rather tricky footwork and crushing hands, Elliot looks and sounds like he’s playing straight from the mouth of hell.
Car Bomb are heavy as balls, if you haven’t heard them then definitely go and check them out, probably for fans of Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Gojira. Hailing from Long Island, New York they combine some seriously groovy riffs with weird time signatures and discordant patterns destined to crush your head while at the same time making you think.
Watching the video, it is clear that Elliot is one talented dude. At one point I found myself wondering what in the hell was going on, lost among an array of time signatures and off beats. See if you can figure out exactly what he’s playing by watching the video, ’cause I can’t! An extremely unique band, they don’t really sound like anybody else, sure, they mix ingredients of bands that have gone before them, but they do it in their own way.
You can pick up a copy of their latest album Meta here.
Give them a whirl if you like it heavy – if you think you can handle it.

The new record is a jerky dissonant roller coaster flying off the rails and I love it. Also that drumming is on point.
