As AI-generated music continues to flood streaming platforms, Deezer is giving listeners a way to find out exactly how much of it they’re hearing.
The streaming service has launched a new AI Music Detector (check it out here) – a tool that scans user playlists and identifies tracks created using generative AI technology. Compatible with playlists from multiple streaming services, the feature allows users to analyze up to 100 playlists and see how much AI-generated music has made its way into their libraries.
The move comes as AI music becomes an increasingly significant part of the streaming landscape. According to Deezer, more than 75,000 AI-generated songs are uploaded to its platform every day, accounting for roughly 44 percent of all new uploads.
“By detecting and tagging AI generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming. No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO, Deezer.
“A vast majority of people want to know if AI music is being recommended to them and our data show that nearly half of the users joining Deezer from another platform have AI tracks in their playlists. We’re expecting our AI music detector to be an eye-opening experience for listeners around the world.”
How It Works
Using the tool is straightforward. Users select their streaming service, allow Deezer to scan their playlists and then receive a breakdown of how much AI-generated content has been detected. Results can also be shared with others, turning the process into a social experiment of sorts.
The feature builds on technology Deezer says can identify AI-generated music with 99.8 percent accuracy by analyzing artifacts left behind in audio files by generative software. According to the company, the system may miss only two AI-generated songs out of every 1,000 and falsely flag fewer than one in 10,000 human-created tracks.
AI Music Is Everywhere
Deezer says it has identified more than 13.4 million AI-generated tracks in 2025 alone, underscoring the scale of content being produced by generative platforms.
The company also points to a surprising statistic from consumer research: 97 percent of people struggle to reliably distinguish AI-generated songs from music created by human artists. As a result, many listeners may already have AI music in their playlists without realizing it. Which is probably not what a lot of those people want. Hence, this tool.
Transparency in Music
A recent survey conducted by Deezer and Ipsos found that 80 percent of respondents believe AI-generated music should be clearly labeled, while 73 percent want to know when streaming services recommend AI-created tracks.
Nearly half of those surveyed said they would like the option to filter AI-generated music out entirely. To address those concerns, Deezer now labels albums containing AI-generated material and excludes fully AI-generated music from its editorial and algorithmic recommendations.
The Fraud Problem
Beyond questions of creativity and authorship, Deezer argues that AI music presents a growing challenge for royalty distribution.
The company claims that as much as 85 percent of streams associated with AI-generated music are fraudulent, often linked to artificial stream inflation schemes designed to generate revenue rather than attract genuine listeners. To combat this, Deezer says it actively filters and demonetizes fraudulent streams, helping ensure royalty payments are directed toward legitimate artists and rights holders.
