Thomas Haake of MESHUGGAH seems like a pretty funny guy. In this recent video by Drumtalk, we get to watch Thomas crack jokes while chopping up vegetables. Is he preparing some kind of martian stew that gives him his supernatural drumming abilities? Who will ever know.
No, but seriously, this is a pretty cool video because it dives fairly deep with Thomas on a number of subjects including practice, writing, creativity, emotions, success, being different, and many other things. I think a lot of what Thomas is saying can be useful to those of us struggling with our own musical identities. Thomas and Meshuggah, in general, are a true testament to the fact that being different can pay off in a huge way, even if it doesn’t really seem like its working as fast as we want it to.
