Superior Drummer 3 is here, and Toontrack’s latest piece of software has once again redefined drum programming. With a host of new features including Tracker (an audio-to-MIDI triggering module that allows you to import audio tracks directly into SD3 to trigger its sounds), drums sampled in up to 11.1 surround sound at Galaxy Studios by George Massenburg, the ability to import your own or 3rd party sample libraries, a scalable interface, the ability to load SD2 and EZX libraries, and much more, Superior Drummer 3 is being touted as “The Future of Drum Production.”
Today, as part of Toontrack’s Metal Month, Brendon Small of Galaktikon, Dethklok and Metalocalypse talks about how he uses Toontrack products (and Superior Drummer in particular) in his creative process, and we get a behind-the-scenes look into his studio approach and setup. In a separate video released earlier this week, Brendon shows us how he uses Superior Drummer 3 as a tool to quickly and easily write songs.
Brendon also took part in our 2017 Drumception series, in which Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren wrote and recorded a completely original song only on the drums and then Brendon, Alex Skolnick (Testament), Will Putney (Fit For An Autopsy), Brandon Ellis (The Black Dahlia Murder) and Reba Meyers (Code Orange), all took turns writing their own song over Dirk’s parts. Click each of the above names to hear their unique versions! We’ll be releasing Brendon’s collaboration with Dirk next week.
You are also invited to download Dirk’s drum track, record your own guitars over it, and enter our Toontrack giveaway right here. At the end of November, Dirk himself will sort through the entries, pick his favorite and award a prize. The drums were recorded using Superior Drummer 3 which is out now and compatible with all major DAWs.
