Soundtoys, a maker of high-end plugins and effects, conducted a series of interviews with Nine Inch Nails earlier this year in which they got the band to talk gear, electronic composition, and live performance, as well as how they use Soundtoys plugins in each of those respects.
In installments two and three, the company talks to Trent Reznor, as well as guitarist Robin Finck, drummer Ilan Rubin, and synth player/engineer/composer Alessandro Cortini about implementing the plugins live as well as creatively. What’s cool about these is that the band doesn’t only talk about specific plugin strategies, but broader concepts and thoughts on ways to use technology such that it doesn’t limit the more human, improvisational side of music.
